<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">Ionic liquids (ILs), also known as molten salts with low melting points, are receiving an upsurge of interest as green solvents and form an attractive area of research. Within the last few years, research and applications of ILs as extraction solvents in sample pretreatment prior to chromatographic analysis have expanded tremendously. This review presents an overview of IL microextraction-based sample pretreatment techniques for high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas chromatography (GC).</dc:description>
